Emergency Preparedness Program

How You Can Help

  1. Give Blood 1-800-GIVEBLOOD

  2. Volunteer

You can help your community prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.  Everyone has something to offer.  Visit the following web sites to find volunteer opportunities near you.

  • Michigan Volunteer Registry  - Seeks people with all skill levels and experiences. Those who register agree to be contacted should their area of expertise be needed during a natural or public health emergency or exercise. Once notified, volunteers will determine their availability to assist.
  • AmeriCorps - National service programs provide opportunities to tutor and mentor youth, build affordable housing, teach computer skills, clean parks and streams, run after-school programs, and help communities respond to disasters.
  • Citizen Corps - Volunteer service opportunities throughout the United States to support first responders, disaster relief activities, and community safety efforts.
  • Civil Air Patrol - Civil Air Patrol Members are actively involved in community efforts in emergency management.
  • Corporation for National and Community Service - Join one of three major community service programs -- Senior Corps, for ages 55 and older; AmeriCorps, an opportunity to receive education awards that help finance college or pay back student loans; and Learn & Serve America, which allows children to participate in service-learning activities.
  • Freedom Corps - A clearinghouse of volunteer opportunities. Find service opportunities that match your interests -- in your hometown, across the country, or around the world.
  • National Disaster Animal Response Team - The Humane Society of the United States National Disaster Animal Response Team consists of animal care and control professionals, emergency services and rescue professionals, and other qualified volunteers. Team members are trained in community disaster response and preparedness as well as specialized response techniques for rescuing animals affected by disasters.
  • Peace Corps - A national volunteer service organization of 7,000 members serving in 70 countries, working to bring clean water to communities, keep families healthy, teach children, help start small businesses, and stop the spread of AIDS.
  • Senior Corps Connects people over 55 years of age with volunteer opportunities.
  • SERVEnet—Find Volunteer Opportunities in Your Community- Enter your zip code, city, state, skills, and interests and be matched with organizations in need of help.
