Child Health Services


The Macomb County Health Department offers services to help families meet the needs of a child with a handicapping condition.  Services are comprehensive and range from payment for specialty care to newborn testing and genetic counseling.  Families of children under 21 years are eligible, but other eligibility criteria apply.

Handicapping Conditions

Handicapping conditions cover a broad range.  Examples that may be covered under this program include:

  • amputations
  • birth defects
  • cerebral palsy
  • eye conditions
  • heart conditions
  • epilepsy
  • muscular dystrophy
  • cystic fibrosis
  • cancer
  • diabetes
