NxLevelTM Tilling the Soil of Opportunity

The course is designed for the agricultural entrepreneur and is aimed at agricultural producers who are considering diversifying or trying a value-added enterprise, or individuals who have started an agricultural based venture.  The materials are specifically designed for the person who is searching for innovative ideas and enhanced marketing opportunities in the area of agriculture.  Participants will develop a comprehensive business plan during the course that will act as a road map for future growth.  All workshops will emphasize the recognition and management of the various facets of risk for specialty enterprises, such as fruits and vegetables, greenhouse crops, ornamentals, trees, livestock and others.  "We have a tremendously diverse agricultural in the Southeast Region, particularly in Macomb County", observes Hannah Stevens, MSU Extension Horticultural Agent.  "Successful producers know they need to keep ahead of the curve and do their research, but the market analysis and financial work can be tough.  Raising mushrooms or hydroponic tomatoes for fun and profit might look good, but you have to be able to take it to the bank.  This course will take you through the steps."

Taught by certified instructors, the classroom setting is lively and fosters networking with local existing businesses.  Guest speakers include attorneys, accountants and successful business owners, bringing added insight to the weekly three-hour sessions.  Participants learn to set realistic goals, predict cash flow and better identify their markets.
