Macomb County Providers Association: support group for new and experienced family and group home providers. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month, September through May at the VerKuilen Building. Call Rene’ Shefferly at 586 979-6051 for more information.

TEACH (Teacher Education and Compensation Helps) Provides scholarships for child care professionals working toward an associate or bachelor degree in early childhood education or child development or Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Call 1-866-MI TEACH or log on to www.mi4c.org/TEACH.

Michigan School-Age Credential Assessment System: represents a Michigan effort to credential qualified caregivers who work with school-age children. For more information call Gwen Becker at 1-800-552-4489 or log on to www.linkforfamilies.org.

Licensing Forms: various forms are available on the web. Log on to www.michigan.gov/daycare.

Accreditation:

• NAEYC Accreditation for centers log on to www.naeyc.org/accreditation.

BASIC TRAINING: (nothing currenlty scheduled)

• 16 hour training series
• Free resource notebook
• Earn 1.5 CEU’s (Continuing Education Units) from Michigan State University
• Earn 1 credit from some Community Colleges (additional fees required)
• All completed training hours can be applied toward child care licensing training requirements for child care center providers, group and family home providers.
  

Topics include:

• Child growth and development
• Age appropriate activities
• Guidance and discipline
• Safety, health and nutrition
• Business htmects, including policies, contracts and taxes
• Professionalism, including accreditation and credentialing
• Parent/provider relations
• Introduction to special needs

FOUNDATIONS FOR INFANT/TODDLER CARE (nothing currenlty scheduled)

• Recommended that providers attend Caring for Infants and Toddlers after completing The Basics of Child Care
• Each part is a 16-hour training series
  • Part A. An overview of caring for infants and toddlers
  • Part B. Social/emotional growth and group care
  • Part C. Learning and development and culture, family and providers
    Free resource notebook
• Earn 1.5 CEU’s (Continuing Education Units) from Michigan State University for each part ($5 fee required)
• Caring for Infants & Toddlers Part A must be completed before taking Parts B and C.

INCLUSIVE CHILD CARE PARTS 1, 2, 3 (nothing currenlty scheduled)

• Recommended that providers attend Inclusive Child Care after completing The Basics of Child Care
• Each part is a 16 hour training series.
• Part 1. Then and Now – Why Inclusion?
  • Abilities First – The Child With Special Needs, Early Risk & Warning Signs, Working Together – A focus on Families
• Part 2. The Preschool Environment – Supporting Children’s Play, Planning, Developing & Teaching - An Inclusive Curriculum
• Part 3. Listening & Talking – Knowledge of Various Special Needs, Guiding Positive Behavior, Kindergarten Transition
• Free resource notebook
• Earn 1.6 CEU’s (Continuing Education Units) from Michigan State University for each part ($5 fee required)
• Series must be taken in sequence

RELATIVE AIDE TRAINING (click here for latest class schedule)

Training specifically designed for Relative Child Care Providers (providing care in-home) or Child Care Aids (providing care in the child’s home).
Earn $150 by attending a 16 hours of training.

You must have received childcare payments from the Department of Human Services for 90 consecutive days and must complete and return the required paperwork to the Michigan 4C Association, (Certificate of Completion, Proof of DHS payment and copies of six consecutive check stubs).
