David Flynn was elected in November 2008 to his second term representing the residents of District 8 in southwest Sterling Heights.

 

Flynn is a lifelong resident of Sterling Heights and graduated from Sterling Heights High School in 2004. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Michigan State University in 2008. 

 

A Democrat, Flynn gained experience interning for U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and State Sen. Michael Switalski (D-Roseville). He also worked for the Macomb County Department of Planning & Economic Development.

 

Flynn chairs of the newly formed Education and Workforce Committee and is vice-chair of the Planning and Economic Development Committee. He also serves on the Ethics and Rules Committee and the Technology and Communications Committee.

 

Flynn’s community involvement includes work as a coordinator for Green Michigan, a non-profit environmental group that promotes community recycling efforts. He also participates in the City of Sterling Heights’ Adopt-A-Road program, where he helps clean a two-mile stretch of Ryan Road between 14 and 16 Mile roads. He is a member of the Sterling Heights Lions Club.

 

At 23, Flynn, is the youngest commissioner ever elected to the County Board (he was 20 on Election Day 2006).
