Susan Doherty was re-elected in November 2006 to represent the residents of District 5 in north-central Warren. The 2007-08 term is her third on the County Board.
Doherty, a Democrat, has a well-established reputation for her support of senior citizen causes, homeless people and people who are disadvantaged. She has been personally involved with the Warren-Center Line Senior Connection, the Warren Senior Citizens Advisory Council and the Macomb County Warming Center.
She has considerable experience serving on public boards and commissions. She is on the board of the Macomb Health Plan and an active member of the Wilkerson Elementary School PTO, Macomb County Democratic Party and the Warren-Center Line Democrats.
She is former vice chair of the Warren Police and Fire Retirements Commission; former vice chair of the Macomb County Health Care Retirement Board, and a former member of the St. Thomas Lutheran Church Council, and Macomb County Community Mental Health board.
Doherty, 39, is a former pension specialist. For most of that career, she administered benefits for more than 450,000 employees of General Motors and Delphi corporations.
She has a bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Michigan State University and is a graduate of Charles Stewart Mott High School in Warren.
Doherty and her husband Richard live in Warren. They have three children.
