Macomb County clerks received 615 voter registrations Macomb County Clerk / Register of Deeds Carmella Sabaugh kept her office open until midnight Monday evening and accepted 615 voter registration applications. Monday was the deadline to register to vote in the November Presidential Election. “In the 16 years I've been county clerk I have never seen anything like this," said Sabaugh. "The excitement reminds me of when Kennedy ran against Nixon." Between 5 p.m. and midnight Sabaugh's office accepted 615 voter registration application forms, including 131 in-person registrations. Voters who did not personally turn in their application forms generally must vote in person the first time they vote and may not cast an absent voter ballot. The last person to register was Justin Porter who arrived at 11:59 p.m. as the doors were closing who said the economy was an important issue. "I think it's an important responsibility," said Porter. "If you have the right you might as well use it." "I hope everyone who registered will vote on Tuesday, November 4," said Sabaugh. A voter can find their polling location and see a sample ballot by visiting the Secretary of State Voter Information Center online at www.michigan.gov/vote. Sabaugh's staff volunteered their time Monday evening so there was no additional taxpayer cost ### |
