Passport Fair

United States PassportThe Passport Fair in the fall was so successful, we’re hosting another one on Thursday, January 17, 2008 from 1-7 p.m. Keep in mind that the Department of State and Homeland Security have announced that passports will be required for travel to Canada and Mexico in the near future.

You can pick up an application form at the library. An informational sheet about the passport process including details for minors is available on the first floor of the library. Check the Internet at www.travel.state.gov for more details and specific deadllines.

The fair will be staffed by employees of the United States Postal Service. “We are very excited about having a another Passport Fair at the Sterling Heights Public Library. What about birth certificates?

If you were born in Macomb County, you can request a birth certificate by contacting the County Clerk’s Vital Records office at (586) 469-5205. You can request certificates by mail, in person, or online at www.macombcountymi.gov/clerksoffice.

The telephone number for those born in Detroit is (313) 876-4134. If you were born in Wayne County (other than Detroit) the number is (313) 224-6262.

For Oakland County births, the number is (248) 858-0571.

Macomb County Clerk/Register of Deeds Carmella Sabaugh suggests you get more than one copy of your birth certificate. When you apply for a passport, you have to send the certificate along with the application. In addition, it’s less expensive to get copies at the time of the original request.
