Where can I get general information about buying my first home? In addition to taking the Affordable Housing and Home Ownership seminars at Macomb MSUE, the Fannie Mae Foundation and the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) have excellent web sites that include mortgage calculators, free booklets to order for first-time homebuyers and information about special mortgage programs. The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) offers an on-line system to pre-qualify a homebuyer. It allows people to quickly see whether or not they would qualify for a MSHDA mortgage based on their income and debt. I am interested in learning more about money management. Where do I go? Where can I find answers to my home maintenance and repair questions? In addition to taking the home maintenance and repair seminars at Macomb MSUE, MSUE has a Home Maintenance and Repair web site with answers to hundreds of questions about home maintenance and repairs, stains and pest management. Energy costs are expensive. How can I save money? MSUE has a web site with practical ideas for how to use less energy and as a result, save money on heating your home. In addition, the Macomb County Community Services Agency has a Home Preservation and Energy program to help people with low-income insulate their homes or apartments. Depending on sporadic funding, MCCSA may be able to replace a furnace or roof. Visit our Housing Education page and find more helpful housing-related information and links.
