SPARC aims to ignite economic development in Macomb County communities. Michigan communities are struggling to complete for new business opportunities. This new program is designed to help communities “get in shape” with regard to their development review process. Up-to-date plan review services and development-related ordinances that incorporate state-of-the-art practices will send the message to prospective developers that the community values development and is therefore a sound investment.
At this time representatives from the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development (MCPED) and Birchler Arroyo Associates have held a series of community workshops collecting information on review processes in Macomb County. As the SPARC initiative moves forward County representatives will be working alongside Birchler Arroyo Associates staff in developing promotion material, resource material, and an advisory certification program.
Participating communities will have an edge over other jurisdictions because they have prepared for new development and redevelopment opportunities. Successful participants will be eligible for targeted County economic development opportunities.
