American Dream Down-Payment (ADDI) Program

1

The ADDI Program provides financial assistance to eligible lower-income first-time home buyers, and is funded through the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development. Four households are typically assisted during the year.  Eligibility is open to the residents of every Macomb County community except for Warren, which receives its own ADDI grant, and St. Clair Shores, which is not a member of the Macomb HOME Consortium.

Those home buyers accepted into the program must agree to attend and pass a minimum of 30 hours of homeowner and financial management education through the Michigan State University Extension service.  The candidate must also save at least $100 per month from personal funds to purchase a home.  ADDI matches those savings at a ratio of $3 ADDI to $1.00 personal.  The maximum ADDI contribution is $7,500.  Funds are applied to the down payment and closing costs.  A MCCSA case manager works with the candidate household during the pre-purchase and immediate post-purchase period.

Current funding levels are very limited for this program and once expended the program closes for the year.  This program is administered through a collaborative agreement with the Macomb County Community Services Agency (that also operates a different but similar “Individual Development Account” program to help eligible first-time home buyers).
