The mission of the Macomb Food Program is to provide food to hungry people in Macomb County. To support this mission, the role of the Macomb Food Program is to develop and supply leadership in the areas of hunger awareness, advocacy and generating financial support. The Macomb Food Program is always in need of monetary and food donations. For more information, please see below.

Food Pantries

Currently, 53 neighborhood food pantries provide emergency food service in Macomb County. Food packages are prepared according to the needs of the family or individual. Contents of the packages vary because most of the food is donated. The average food package will last between five and seven days.

The criteria to access the Macomb Food Program requires only that a person be a Macomb County resident and have an emergency need for food. The person in need of emergency food need only call the Macomb Food Program and give some general information (name, address, number in household) to receive a referral to a food pantry located in their area that is open when the client is able to pick up the food. The Macomb Food Program can be reached at (586) 469-6004.

Food Sorters for the Macomb Food Program

The Macomb Food Program needs volunteers to sort donated food collected during the Letter Carriers Food Drive in May. Volunteers are welcome to sort canned and boxed non-perishable food from large totes and pack it into smaller boxes at the Macomb Food Program warehouse.

Volunteer sorters are welcome weekdays between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Evening and weekend times can be arranged for volunteer groups.

Once packed, the smaller boxes filled with donated food are distributed to the 53 local pantries in the Macomb Food Program network.

People interested in volunteering may call the Macomb Food Program at (586) 469-6004.
