Food Sorters for the Macomb Food Program

The Macomb Food Program needs volunteers to sort donated food collected during the Letter Carriers Food Drive in May. Volunteers are welcome to sort canned and boxed non-perishable food from large totes and pack it into smaller boxes at the Macomb Food Program warehouse.

Volunteer sorters are welcome weekdays between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Evening and weekend times can be arranged for volunteer groups.

Once packed, the smaller boxes filled with donated food are distributed to the 53 local pantries in the Macomb Food Program network.

The mission of the Macomb Food Program is to provide food to hungry people in Macomb County. Macomb County residents who have an urgent need for food call the Macomb Food Program and are referred to a pantry in their area to pick up a supply of emergency food.

People interested in volunteering may call the Macomb Food Program at (586) 469-6004.

Walk for Warmth

MCCSA's 19th annual Walk for Warmth is tentatively scheduled for February 21, 2009 at St. Therese of Lisieux in Shelby Township, 48115 Schoenherr. Registration opens at 9 a.m. and the Walk begins at 10 a.m.

This annual event raises funds to assist low-income families and individuals with home heating emergencies such as furnace repair/replacement and utility assistance.

Walk for Warmth raises funds in two ways: walkers' pledges and sponsorships/donations.

Walkers collect monetary pledges prior to the Walk. On the day of the event, they walk up to three miles to show their support.

Sponsors and donators make monetary contributions toward the Walk for Warmth effort. Often, these are local businesses, service organizations, churches and concerned individuals.

Donations can be mailed to MCCSA, ATTN: Walk for Warmth, 21885 Dunham Road, Suite 10, Clinton Township, MI 48036. Checks should be made payable to MCCSA - Walk for Warmth. For more information, please call 586-469-6999 or email mccsa@macombcountymi.gov .
