      Phil DiMaria was re-elected in November 2006 to represent the residents of District 3, which includes the City of Eastpointe. Now serving his eigth term on the County Board, DiMaria was first elected in 1992 by voters in his district to be their representative on the County Board.

       

      DiMaria, a Democrat, has previously served as chairman of the Justice & Public Safety Committee for 11 years and chaired an ad hoc committee on the homeless. He is a past member of the Macomb County Planning Commission and the Michigan Association of Counties Justice and Public Safety Committee.

       

      DiMaria, 56, has been a champion of law enforcement and public safety during his years on the board, and focuses on the needs of the large population of senior citizens in his district. He conducts outreach programs and sponsors senior citizen luncheons each year to gather information on the needs of seniors and explain county programs available to them.

       

      DiMaria is a retired police officer for the City of Troy, serving 30 years before leaving the force in 2004. He received many awards and commendations as a police officer. He was honored as Eastpointe Citizen of the Year and received a distinguished service award from East Detroit Public Schools.

       

      DiMaria is a member of the Eastpointe Oddfellows and Knights of Columbus Lakeshore Council. His extensive record of community involvement includes service as chairman of the East Detroit Michigan Week activities and the East Detroit Protective Services Commission. He is a past member of the East Detroit Traffic Safety Commission, former president of the Nine Mile & Toepfer Homeowners Association and former secretary of the Eight Mile & Kelly Homeowners Association. He also sponsored scholarship and youth sports programs in the East Detroit Public Schools for many years.

       

      He participates in the county Adopt-a-Road program, cleaning 10 Mile Road from Gratiot Avenue to Kelly Road and Beaconsfield from Nine Mile Road to Eight Mile Road twice a year.

       

      In June 2008, DiMaria was elected to chair the advisory board for the charity group Wigs4Kids. This group accepts donated hair that is turned into wigs for children who have lost their own hair due to illness such as cancer.

       

      DiMaria graduated from the Macomb County Police Academy and is a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods.

       

      He and his wife Roseanne live in Eastpointe. They have two daughters and two grandchildren.
