She joined the County Board as an appointee in June 2006 and then was elected in November 2006 to represent the residents of District 18 in Harrison Township and southeast Clinton Township.

She also is a founding board member of the Macomb County Drug Court, which uses an organized system of intensive treatment and management to help criminal defendants and youth beat drug and alcohol dependency and become productive citizens.
In 2005, Camphous-Peterson worked with community groups, governmental organizations, charities and businesses to help provide food, clothing and housing for more than 400 Hurricane Katrina victims who came to Macomb County.
