Keith Rengert was re-elected in November 2006 to represent the residents of District 15 in Macomb, Ray, Armada and Richmond townships, the village of Armada and the cities of Memphis and Richmond. This marks his third term on the County Board.
Rengert, 58, is chairman of the Justice & Public Safety Committee and is a member of Budget, Finance, Personnel, Planning & Economic Development, Operational Services, Health and Community Services committees. He is also chairman of the Solid Waste Planning Committee and chair of the Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee.
He is a lifelong resident of District 15 was first elected to the Board of Commissioners in 2002 with more than 25 years of township service. He was first elected to township office in 1984 and served as trustee, treasurer and supervisor during his impressive township tenure. He is known for his efforts in making sure that county residents get value from their tax dollar.
Rengert, 58 has an exceptional history in the area of Justice and Public Safety. He retired following 31 years in the field of detention education as a teacher-counselor with L’Anse Creuse Public Schools; he served 18 years as a member of the Board of Directors of the Richmond-Lenox Ambulance Authority and five years as member of the Community Corrections Advisory Board.
He also has an extensive history of church, community and professional involvement. Rengert is a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where he continues to serve as an usher and the council member. He is a charter member of the Central Macomb Optimist Club and an active Lions Club member. He participates in the county Adopt-a-Highway program in three townships (Macomb, Lenox and Richmond) along with local civic groups.
Rengert earned a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree from Wayne State University along with CMFA (Certified Municipal Finance Administrator) certification from the Municipal Treasurers’ Association.
He and his wife Sallie have two married daughters (Dawn & Kim) and three grandchildren (Allyson, Brandon and Brianna).
Commissioner Rengert welcomes comments and concerns and has been a speaker at Leadership Macomb, local service clubs, chamber of commerce events, area schools as well as homeowner organizations focused on his history and experience in local government.
